Did you know that more than half of the waste from your kitchen can become a treasure for your plants? Making kitchen fertilizer will give you two benefits: reducing your waste and providing your plants with free, quality fertilizer.

You need a balance of two things to make compost: green (nitrogen) and brown (carbon). *green (nitrogen): Fruit and vegetable peels, tea leaves, and green grass, etc. *Brown (carbon): Dry leaves, pieces of cardboard, waste newspaper, and eggshells can do it. *What to avoid: Meat, dairy, oily foods, and plastic. These smell bad, so stick to them.

How to get Ready Compost Bin?

You can do this without buying expensive ones, using old plastic buckets or boxes lying at home and even clay pots lying at home. Important tip: Make small holes in the sides and bottom of the container to allow air to pass through (oxygen is essential for respiration of aerobic microorganisms. Without sufficient oxygen, the process will become anaerobic and produce undesirable odors).

step by step process

*First layer: First of all, if there are dry leaves at the bottom, then put them; if not, then cut small pieces of cardboard and put them. * Add waste: Add the wet kitchen waste (greens) that you have collected. Now, after this, make layers like this until the box is full. Always cover wet waste with dry leaves or soil to prevent flies from coming. Once every 1-2 weeks, you should stir the garbage up and down with a stick. This will mix the garbage and allow it to get air.

Where to keep the compost bin?

If you are making compost in summer, keeping the bin in strong sunlight will dry out the mixture, which will kill the germs and stop the process. So, you should keep it in a shaded place. In winter, mild sunlight keeps the compost warm and helps it rot faster. Check the humidity: If you keep it in the sun, check regularly to make sure it doesn’t dry out, and add water if needed.

How to identify compost ready for composting?

When the waste becomes completely black like soil and starts emitting a nice soil-like smell, then understand that the compost is ready. It takes about 2 to 3 months for the compost to be ready.

Problem & solution

*If the garbage is dry, sprinkle some water to moisten it slightly. *If there are flies in the compost bin?? If there is no layer of soil on top of the wet garbage, cover it well, and flies will not come after this.

How to make Liquid Fertilizer

You can also make liquid fertilizer from kitchen waste to make your plants healthy and evergreen. Liquid fertilizer can be made by soaking fruit and vegetable peels in water. First of all, take a bottle, any kind of bottle will do, be it plastic or glass, then put peels in it one at a time, for example, if you are using orange peels then put only those, if you have not put peels of any other fruit in it then fill it with water till the top, then close it properly and leave it for 2 to 3 days. Now open the bottle, mix it, then filter it using a sieve or cloth, then use the liquid that comes out after filtering.

How to give liquid fertilizer to plants

Add 2 to 3 caps of liquid fertilizer in 5 liters of water and mix it well, then give it to your plants.
